more on the gears: fastrack to zen

i was thinking about cycling gears just a while back and how when you really begin to understand gears, that being in my opinion, the point where you realize that gear changing is pretty much an intuitive thing that involves a whole bunch of choices or possibilities;and that it all basically concludes with the key premise being to keep our chain running parallel to the bike ( or specifically the _________<-bike term here). In other words the speed or the cadence is all irrelevant, in a nutshell,  and it's how you have the combination of gears aligned so as to maximize the the angle of chain travel.  To give a more detailed description of this,  imagine that your chain is riding not only "on" your bike, but like a companion, "beside" you for all eternity. You don't want that chain to ever cross your path of travel any more than you want it to to veer off the other way and disappear into the abyss of the cosmos and leave you cycling, alone and dismayed.   So the whole idea here is to have your chain running the same direction as you, not veering off to the right or to left by the slightest degree; what that does is not only become incrementally awkard or just plain inefficient, it also becomes potentially dangerous because the incidence of snapping or losing your chain is, however slightly, increased. Whether you are big gear up front and small gear in the back, or big in the front and big in the back etc. etc is really not the most important thing, its the accuracy of the chain rotation. Put it this way, just remember to quickly choose the most comfortable gear at any given speed, and then, just as quickly, adjust it up or down, slower or faster slightly,( by using the gears and pulling the chain in or out [left or right] in either the front end or the back end of the bike to make it straight) thus making sure that you line up the drivetrain to be parallel to your bike so your chain is now running at it's optimal performance of perfect balance along the bike from the front to the back...it will also make you feel zen, trust me...
